I love doing photography projects and trying out new ideas and "visions". When my daughter was born I had been interested in photography for about a year. I decided to take my own photos of her and it's definitely one of those things where at the time you feel like you did a great job but when you look back on it you're like.. "hrm I definitely had on mommy goggles there". [haha].
So.. .. that's what happened!
Flash forward a few years from when I took their photos, and I decided that I wanted to hang up photos of each of my kids when they were babies (somewhere around 0-9 months).
With my oldest babies I hired a photographer I love [Rod Evans in Sioux Falls SD] to do the photos.. but with my daughter and youngest, I thought I could take them myself - wonh-wonh. When I started going through the photos trying to decide which ones to print for the walls I felt kind of sad I didn't have anything all that spectacular to hang up.
Then.. I decided.. they aren't too old to try doing a "newborn-esque" session now :)!
So I did a session with each kiddo just for fun and to try something new and thought I'd share the results here [I am going to split them up into 2 different blog posts.. this will be of my daughter and my toddler will be the subsequent post! :)].
While they are definitely much older than babies or 0-9 months, I still find them very sweet and capturing the essence of newborn photography. I think I will stick with using photos from 0-9 months for the wall "baby" collage I make but I'm still glad I took the time to do these sessions! I'm not entirely sure what they are technically called.. toddlers sleeping like newborns? Preschoolers posed like newborn babies? Hmmmmm. I'm not sure this genre really exists but it was fun either way.
And.. after about 20 or so minutes of photographing her, she half-way woke up.. and I got this gem:
